The STM32F407G-DISC1 Discovery Kit is the official, updated evaluation board from STMicroelectronics designed to showcase the high performance of the STM32F407 high-line microcontroller family. Built around the powerful STM32F407VGT6 core—an ARM Cortex-M4 32-bit RISC processor with Floating Point Unit (FPU) operating at frequencies up to 168 MHz—this board provides a complete hardware environment for evaluating advanced DSP, real-time control, and audio processing capabilities.
The board features an updated onboard ST-LINK/V2-1 embedded debug tool, providing seamless USB programming, debugging, and virtual COM port (VCP) connectivity with popular IDEs such as STM32CubeIDE, Keil MDK-ARM, and IAR Embedded Workbench. To facilitate rapid prototyping, ST has equipped the board with a comprehensive array of onboard peripherals: an omnidirectional MEMS digital microphone, a Cirrus Logic CS43L22 audio DAC connected to an integrated Class-D speaker amplifier and 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, a 3-axis motion accelerometer, a USB OTG Micro-AB connector, and extension pin headers exposing all LQFP100 microcontroller I/Os.

Board Layout & Power Supply Guide
1. Onboard Connector & Jumper Configurations:
-
CN1 (USB ST-LINK): Micro-B USB port used for programming, debugging, power input, and serial log output.
-
CN5 (USB OTG FS): Micro-AB USB port connected directly to the STM32F407 USB Peripheral.
-
CN4 (Audio Out): 3.5mm stereo jack powered by the CS43L22 DAC.
-
JP1 (IDD Current Measurement): Remove jumper to insert a multimeter for measuring MCU current draw.
-
P1/P2 Extension Headers: Standard 2.54mm dual-row headers providing access to PA0−PA15, PB0−PB15, PC0−PC15, PD0−PD15, and PE0−PE15.
2. Power Supply Modes:
-
USB Powered (Default): Connect a standard Micro-USB cable to the CN1 (ST-LINK) port. The onboard regulator converts 5V USB power to +3.3V for the MCU and peripherals.
-
External 5V Supply: Apply +5V DC to the 5V header pin and system ground to GND.
MIGRATION NOTE (STM32F4-DISCO vs STM32F407G-DISC1): The STM32F407G-DISC1 is the revised version of the legacy STM32F4-DISCOVERY board. It replaces the older ST-LINK/V2 with the upgraded ST-LINK/V2-1, which adds drag-and-drop programming (USB Mass Storage), a Virtual COM Port (UART-to-USB bridged directly to PA2/PA3), and ARM mbed Enabled compatibility.
Applications
-
Digital Signal Processing (DSP): Real-time digital filtering, Fast Fourier Transforms (FFT), and active noise cancellation.
-
Digital Audio Engineering: Voice recognition, MP3/WAV audio synthesis, and digital effects processing.
-
Advanced Motion & Robotics: Multi-axis drone flight controllers, robotic arm inverse kinematics, and motor drive systems.
-
